28 MAI / MAY 17.30, Sala Negulescu (Str.Spiru Haret 8) Proiecţie de fim (Călătoria lui Gruber, regia Radu GABREA) şi dezbatere, în lb.română / Movie screening (Gruber's Journey, director Radu GABREA) and debate, in Romania) Participă: Radu GABREA (regizor), Lect. dr. Felicia WALDMAN (Universitatea din Bucureşti) Moderator: Conf. univ. dr. Mihai CHIOVEANU (FSPUB) The Iasi Pogrom represents one of the greatest massacres in the entire Holocaust, and the very moment when Romania’s ethnic-cleansing project turned genocidal. But the pick of years of abuses, persecutions, hate speech, and so on; the pogrom was the final test before launching the ethnic cleansing operations in Bessarabia and Bukovina. The local authorities, which were encouraged to keep the order by all means, the Romanian army, no longer victimized by the state propaganda but presented in the aftermath of the pogrom as heroic, with its pride retrieved, lastly the civilians, who had to act patriotically, were tested one more time. Moving from here the debate on Gruber’s Journey focuses on the possibility to represent by means of cinema such a limit historical experience, and the limits of such a representation. Turning the Iasi pogrom into a warning from history, and a history lesson, the movie under scrutiny is based on the novel of a cynical bystander (Curzio Malaparte), and combines the more classic perspective of history from above, with history from bellow, oral history, and micro-history. Altogether this complex puzzle of perspectives and experiences with violence might offer to the general public new insights into anti-Semitism, xenophobia, racism and their ultimate outgrowth. |
